Flowers on the ground, music, dancing, games and a festive feast are all part of Onam, one of the most important festivals for the Malayalam-speaking community in the southern Indian state of Kerala. In Magdeburg, too, students from India celebrated the Onam festival with friends from Germany and all over the world; the festival marks both the Malayalam New Year and the harvest season.

Since 2003, the Magdeburg Children’s University has been introducing children and young people to exciting topics from the world of research in a way that is easy to understand, age-appropriate and full of enthusiasm. The women behind the organisation are Katja Grunenberg and Friederike Wiemann. They share their favourite spots on campus.

Robert Behrens and Ivan Vogt were among the pioneers who participated in the enrollment for the first Bachelor’s degree programme in Medical Technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Magdeburg in 2014. They are now developing state-of-the-art medical technology. Their own research project is called SCANATIQ.

Philip Girschik is in his fifth semester studying medical technology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. A school-leaver’s work placement at the STIMULATE Research Campus set him on this path. Today, alongside his studies, the 20-year-old is involved in the Student Initiative for Medical Technology (STIMT) and works as a student assistant in the IT department at the research campus.
